A look beneath Phoenix and possible ice

Possible ice under Phoenix, courtesy NASA

The robot arm on Phoenix took a look beneath the lander, and saw something that could be ice.  It’s very bright, so it’s interpreted as ice, but it could be something else.  They need to investigate further.  If this is indeed ice, the prediction of it being found only a few centimetres beneath the surface has proved to be true.  Phoenix is already showing us great pictures and information!
